Vocal Audition Information:

Be ready to sing up to 16 bars of the song of your choice. Ideally, songs from shows for the current season should not be chosen.

You must bring sheet music (in the proper key) for your song selection, and have the portion you are singing HIGHLIGHTED for the accompanist.

It is very helpful if you can prepare your music by copying it to single sheet(s) of paper and attaching the individual pages to a file folder or cardboard so that the music stays upright when placed on the piano. If the title of your song does not appear on the copied pages, please write it in.

To be fair, no personal accompanists will be permitted. All auditioners will use the accompanist we provide.

The accompanist will play only a very short introduction, so be ready to sing immediately.

No taped music is allowed.

Music chosen should reflect your vocal range, ability and be age appropriate.

Song selection should be memorized. Avoid holding your sheet music while you sing, and remember to make eye contact with the people in the room.

Dance Audition Information:

The dance routine will be taught following the Vocal Audition.  After a short learning period, auditioners will audition the dance routine for the Choreographers.

Dress comfortably so you can move around easily. (Note regarding footwear: the dance audition will be on a carpeted floor.)

Everyone must participate in BOTH the dance and vocal audition.

Casting:

Casting for The Theatre in the Park's Season 2008 will take place the week following the Call Back auditions. Cast members will be notified either by email or phone within 2 weeks following casting. If an auditioner does not accept a role or does not respond to the Production Team to accept a role, the role will be re-cast.

NOTE: If you are not invited to a Call Back Audition, this does not mean you will not be cast in a show this season. Due to time constraints, many of the roles will be cast directly from the primary auditions and a callback audition is not required. Once all the shows have been cast, the cast lists will be posted on The Theatre in the Park's website.

After Theatre Council’s careful consideration of comments provided by cast and staff, the following casting practice will be implemented for Season 2007 and beyond –"Double casting is discouraged. Exceptions can be made by the Executive Producer at the time of casting, however it will be our policy that no individual may be cast in more than one show per season."

Call Backs are by INVITATION ONLY. If you are called back you will need to click here to download the appropriate materials for all the roles you are called back for.

At the time you receive your Call Back invitation, you will be given instructions for accessing the music and/or readings related to the role(s) you are being considered for.

Before you leave the audition location, please be sure you have all of your personal property with you. We cannot be responsible for lost items.

Additional Audition Information:

Casting results will be posted on this website two to three weeks after auditions. To receive a copy of the casting results by mail, please call our office after March 30th.

If you have questions, please contact us at (913) 631-7050.

Refreshments will be available for sale as a fundraiser for the Friends program.

Show Rehearsals:
To be considered for ANY role, performers must be willing to commit to a six to seven week rehearsal schedule in addition to the performance dates.

"Oklahoma!" will have a six week rehearsal schedule; Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," "42nd Street" and "Titanic - the Musical" will have seven week rehearsal schedules.

Rehearsals are Sunday — Thursday nights, from approximately 6:00 — 10:00 p.m.

All rehearsal locations will be in the Johnson County area.
